Long Island Medical Malpractice Lawyers

When you go to a doctor’s office or a hospital, you expect to receive treatment that is safe and without any added pain or suffering. At times, doctors and nurses don’t take the time and care that is needed with the patients who are seen. If an injury occurs while under the care of a doctor or nurse in some states, then medical malpractice is said to have occurred. It’s important to talk to an attorney if you feel that you are a victim of medical malpractice so that you can receive the proper compensation for your medical bills and any pain and suffering that you experience as a result of the incident that took place. At times, medical malpractice can result in the death of the patient. The family would then be eligible for compensation, and the provider would be held responsible with severe ramifications of the act that was performed to cause the death.

A misdiagnosis is one kind of malpractice. Sometimes, a doctor might not know the correct diagnosis at the time when speaking with a patient. This would lead to a different diagnosis being made and possibly different medications used that shouldn’t be at the time. There are times when the doctor intentionally provides a misdiagnosis in order to make more money or to prescribe medications that result in more money for the office. Another type of misdiagnosis is when the doctor fails to treat the condition in a timely manner, which results in a lack of treatment in a timely manner. If the patient doesn’t have the proper treatment, then the patient could experience other illnesses or even death.

When a woman delivers a baby, there is a risk for childbirth injuries. The doctor could potentially drop a baby during the birthing process or cause another type of injury while the baby is being taken from the birth canal. Brain injuries are often the most severe, such as cerebral palsy. This occurs when the baby is deprived of oxygen while in the womb. If the doctor sees that there is any ind of distress with the baby and does nothing about it, then the doctor would be held responsible. Fractured bones are another common type of birth injury. When the doctor sees that the baby won’t fit through the birth canal, every effort should be made for other means of delivery. If not, then there could be breaks with the collarbone or the shoulders.

Prescription errors are common and shouldn’t be ignored. The doctor might change the dosage of the prescription so that the patient takes more medicine than is needed or so that the patient doesn’t have enough of the medication to treat the issue. Doctors can sometimes administer a drug inappropriately or use the wrong kind of drug. Sometimes, doctors and nurses in a hospital might give medications to the wrong patient. This could result in allergic reactions or death if the medication cannot be taken by the patient who receives the treatment.

Surgery and anesthesia errors sometimes go hand in hand. Most errors with anesthesiology don’t happen that often, but when they do, they often result in death. In most cases, the patient is given too much medication for the procedure, or the doctor doesn’t monitor the vital signs in the proper manner during the surgery. Surgeons sometimes make negligent errors when they don’t pay attention to what they are doing, such as nicking or puncturing a blood vessel or organ. Some surgeons operate on the wrong area of the body while some don’t provide the proper care after surgery, resulting in an infection in the area of the body.

In most instances, an attorney is able to settle for the largest compensation possible when medical malpractice is determined. All medical paperwork needs to be reviewed, and witnesses should be questioned. Most settlements include compensation for the medical bills and pain and suffering.
